CurrentResearch • Goal: Toinvestigatethe role of attachmentanxiety/attachmentavoidance in howwerememberrelationalexperiences. • Attachmentanxiety • “hyperactivating” self regulationstrategy – underrregulation of affect Hypothesis: It is associatedwithhigherreliving, higherrehearsal, higheremotionality • Attachmentavoidance • “deactivating” behavioralregulationstrategy – overregulation of affect Hypothesis: It is associatedwithlessreliving, lessrehearsal, andlessemotionality
Method • Participants (N =112) wererecruitedfromKocUniversity in exchangeforcoursecredit • Participantswereexcludedifthey • have not beeninvolved in anyromanticrelationship (N = 8) • did not provideappropriateautobiographialmemoryreport (N = 10)
Method Allthemeasureswerecompleted online in thelab. • Experiences in CloseRelationships-II (ECR-II) • Attachmentanxietyandattachmentavoidance • Demographicinformation • Relationshipstatus • Areyoucurrently in a romanticrelationship? • Ifyeshowlong? • If no, haveyoubeen in anyromanticrelationship? • Ifyes, howlongago?
Method • Askedtoreport a negativememorythattheyexperienced in theirromanticrelationships • MemoryCharacteristicsQuestionnaire • Toassesseventqualities at retrievalsuch as intensity, vividness, visual perspective, importance, rehearsal.
