Learn From History • Every generation of God’s people will face challenges • Some aspects are like prior generations • Others are unique to a generation • The aim of this study is for us to continue in a series of lessons that deal with the “Sins of Our Generation”
Overwhelming number in society are lovers of themselves (FB, Twitter, You Tube) In the US, diagnoses of narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) have risen sharply over the past 10 years: the rate of increase is comparable to the rise in the rate of obesity. Numerous studies claim to have made direct links between the increase in NPD and the ubiquity of social media. Behaviors such as attempting to attract more followers, wanting to tell followers about your life, and the need to project a positive image at all times have been described by researchers as examples of exhibiting narcissistic personality traits on social media. A direct link has also been found between the number of Facebook friends a person has and the prevalence of socially disruptive traits commonly associated with narcissism. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/mar/17/i-narcissist-vanity-social-media-and-the-human-condition

Overwhelming number in society are lovers of themselves: • Paul told Timothy to be aware that grievous times would come (2 Tim. 3:1-4:8) • Accept God’s call to be more astutely aware of others and their needs, wants and desires (Rom. 12:10-16)
Unforgiving attitudes are prevalent: • Vilification of everyone is the norm. People seem to be turning on one another too quickly & looking for opportunity to absolutely break down another’s character/life • God has revealed His displeasure and what will happen to a people defined such as this (Rom. 1:28-32; Cf. Mt. 18:21-35) • What are we (as individuals) going to do about that? We can either be part of the problem or the solution (Mt. 7:12; Rom. 13:8-14)!
Battles the devil wins: • When lives are taken/lost/given up and the soul us out of Christ. • When “love, tolerance and acceptance” of sinful lifestyles/ideals are promoted in view of “compassion.” • Ezek. 33:7-11; Cf. Jas. 5:19-20; Isa. 5:20-21; Rev. 2:4, 14, 21-22; 3:15-19
