During the reign of Roman emperor Claudius II, St. Valentine was arrested and imprisoned for performing marriage ceremonies against the emperor’s wishes. • As the story goes, during his imprisonment, his jailer asked him to teach his young, blind daughter Julia. • They grew very close as he taught her lessons in history and arithmetic. St. Valentine prayed that God would take away her blindness, and suddenly she could see! • Right before St. Valentine was put to death, he wrote a final note to Julia, signing it “From your Valentine”. • Valentine’s Day is now celebrated every February 14th!
