Relay For Life • Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society's signature fundraising event that brings people together to Celebrate, Remember and Fight Back • Relay is in over 5,000 communities in the United States and in 21 countries around the world • 1 in every 100 Americans participates in Relay For Life.

The American Cancer Society • The American Cancer Society saves lives by helping people… • STAY WELL by preventing cancer or finding it early • GET WELL by being there for them during and after a cancer diagnosis • FINDING CURES through investment in groundbreaking discoveries • FIGHTING BACK by rallying lawmakers to pass laws to defeat cancer and rallying communities worldwide to join the fight

Your Job as a Chaperone • Turn in your chaperone form! • Check in and out so we can guarantee that there are the minimum number of required chaperones at each site. • Actively monitor your team • You’re chaperoning a team, and the event. Keep an eye on all attendees, and if you don’t feel comfortable approaching students about an issue, please find a Committee Member or staff to deal with the situation. • Learn the names of all students on your team and communicate expectations, including for them to check in with you at designated times. • Set a good example and conduct yourself in a manner that will encourage the best behavior of all participants.

Event Rules • NO alcoholic beverages or drugs • NO smoking or tobacco products • NO pets, bicycles, skateboards and in-line skates • NO weapons of any kind • Please keep event clean • Be kind and courteous to fellow Relayers • NO students can enter with registering • NO students may leave without a note

  9. What to do When You Arrive • Students and chaperones are to check in upon arrival • Chaperones – be prepared to show your ID to get into the event. You must be pre-registered and show your ID • Make sure your students check in, and double check you have their emergency contact information and any Arrive late/Leave early forms for your team

  10. What to do When You Arrive continued…. • If you have money to turn in on the day of the event, take it to the information tent as soon as you are registered. Be sure to list your team and team name on your envelope. Your school and team will be credited. All checks should be made out to the American Cancer Society. • Include any other relevant arrival information for your event…

  11. What to bring… • Cell phone • Driver’s license • Sleeping bags, blankets, pillows, lawn chairs, tables, tent • Flashlights & batteries • Cooler & Ice • Snacks • Comfortable walking shoes • Extra clothes (sweatshirts, pants, EXTRA SOCKS!) • Rain poncho and umbrella (if rain is forecasted) • Paper towels/Napkins, baby wipes, Kleenex • Band-aids/First Aid Kit (ACS will also have the basics at registration) • Sunscreen and sunglasses • Bug spray • Money for on-site fundraisers • Camera • Trash bags • Toiletries • Hat & gloves (if event is early in the season) • Cards, soccer ball, volleyball, Frisbee, cards, & board games • Copies of student’s emergency contact information

  12. What not to bring… • Alcohol • Weapons • Tobacco products • Rollerblades/skateboards • Inappropriate language • Dangerous games • Pets • Add as applicable

  13. Event Schedule Activities, ceremonies, and food! • Add your event schedule, ceremonies information, and any meal details here.

  14. Emergency Information Bad weather , violation of event policies, and who to contact • Add day of contact information, severe weather plan, and producers for students violating rules here.

  15. Event Map • Add a map of your event or describe the location of important areas ( committee headquarters, where donations are taken, bathrooms, etc…
