Summary • SCUs in LCLS-II, or future machines, can make a truly dramatic improvement in performance • LCLS-II performance requirements present an opportunity to take the next big step in FEL design • We propose 18 months of R&D to advance this technology, hoping to impact the LCLS-II design • The plan includes two engineering approaches and two technologiesin order to more fully explore options • We collaborate with very experienced labs (ANL & LBNL) • If too late for LCLS-II, this new technology can still support future (expansion) undulators for LCLS-II, or for any machine • Thanks for your attention and advice
