Open Window Display • You look through and see the store!
Open Window Display • Advantages • View Store • More daylight in store • Allows customers to see lots of stuff • Disadvantages • Hard to develop theme (no backdrop besides store)
Closed Window Display • Like a shadow box!
Closed Window Display • Advantages • Can have a dramatic message- no interference • Special lighting • Can change the Background • Disadvantages • Takes space out of interior • Has to have door so you can change window • May feel “not friendly”
Window Display Themes • If you can think of it, it will work! • Holidays • Homecoming • Back to School • And so much more! • Theme has to be understood in 2 seconds! Especially for people driving
4 Basic Functions of a Window Display • Attract Attention • Create Interest • Change Interest into Desire • Draw Customer Inside
Attracting Attention • Use of COLOR • Size of items in display • Creativity- something unusual/unexpected • Light- special lighting/sparkly/blinking • Movement- ex. Fan blowing streamers
Creating Interest • Adding Details to the design…stuff the customer may only see if they take a second look!
Changing Interest Into Desire • Displays should be put out in a way that people can visualize them in their own home or on them
Drawing the Customer Inside • Make the exterior inviting and friendly • Well-organized • Clean
Other Design Tips • Create a Focal Point • Simplicity- don’t over crowd the window
Window Display Assignment • You will create a window display for your shop • First, choose a theme • Then, create a rough draft • Be sure your display meets the 4 functions of window displays
Window Display Assignment • A final, neat & COLORED copy will be turned in for a 2 daily grades • This window display will also be a part of your Portfolio
