Features of the workbooks • non- accredited resources available free to support those that work with people who have dementia. • supported by PowerPoint presentations • links within the workbook which direct to other resources available to build on the knowledge given. • exercises within the workbook and the short quiz at the end.

  10. Use of language and terminology • User friendly • Use of SCIE resources directing to specific E.learning modules • Uses pictures and diagrams

Workbook 1:Learning outcomes: • Be able to describe dementia • Understand the different symptoms of dementia • Gain awareness of person centred approaches • Understand changes that can happen through the dementia journey • Be able to consider the affect dementia has on a person’s feelings and emotions • Know that there are different types of dementia • Understand the differences between dementia, depression and delirium

Workbook 1 content: • What is dementia? • What causes dementia? • Diagnosing dementia • The dementia journey • What does having dementia mean for a person? • Effect on feelings & emotions • Behaviours that challenge us • Person Centred Approaches • Supporting the person with dementia • Some other causes of confusion

Workbook 2:Learning outcomes • Know how the brain is affected when a person has dementia and be able link this to the difficulties the person may experience • Gain awareness of how physical health is important to a person with dementia • Understand about how person centred care and positive communication can improve well being for people with dementia. • Identify different legislation which effects people with dementia • Gain knowledge about the different medications available for people with dementia • Understand how diverse the experience of dementia can be • Understand the importance of working with family and friends of people with dementia

Workbook 2 content: • Further knowledge about the causes of dementia including information about the brain • Common difficulties • General health and wellbeing • Further knowledge about Person Centred Care • Positive and effective communication • Equality and diversity • Life history work • Behaviours that challenge us. • Medication for people with dementia • Safeguarding issues including abuse and neglect • Legislation: Mental Capacity Act, Deprivation of Liberty, Equalities Act. • Supporting and working with families and friends of people with dementia.

  15. Progress to date • Current Drafts out for Consultation on workbooks 1&2 • Feedback from consultation due 18th March • Final version to be available on website 1st April
