DIBELS Update – Superintendent Memorandum • 2019-2020 Transition Year: During the transition year, the ALSDE will: • Continue to pay for the data management system for the 2019-2020 school year • Districts choosing to use DIBELS as an assessment have the option of printing the student booklets, teacher administration guides, and scoring guides in-house with no outsourcing to a third party, or they may contact a company licensed to print and sell DIBELS materials • Support district and school leaders in analyzing DIBELS data for making instructional decisions

These ASAP schools will: Develop a Journey to Success plan for successful summer learning for CSI schools Participate in summer learning training and materials for the teachers, coach(es), and administrator(s) Receive on-going summer support from OSI and ARI staff ASAP - Alabama Summer Achievement Program

Alabama Science in Motion (ASIM) • Alabama Science in Motion (ASIM) is the Grades 9-12 science component of the Alabama Math, Science, and Technology Initiative (AMSTI). Accountability System and Reporting:Proposed Changes to ESSA Plan • Change the definition of chronic absence from 15 to 18 days. • Change the scoring process for the Progress of English Language Proficiency category • Add clarifying information about long-term goals, stating that Alabama will continue using unweighted data for long-term goals and targets for school improvement.
Accountability System and Reporting: Proposed Changes to ESSA Plan • Change the identification of Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI) schools from those falling in the bottom 6% of all Title I schools to those falling in the bottom 5% of all Title I schools. • Remove schools that fall more than 10 percentage points below the state’s average graduation rate from the Comprehensive Support Schools list. ALSDE will use the recommended measure of graduation rate of 67% or below to identify schools.
Accountability System and Reporting:Proposed Changes to ESSA Plan • Modify the Targeted Support and Improvement (TSI) calculations beginning in the Fall of 2019-20. • Modify the Additional Targeted Support and Improvement (ATSI) calculations beginning in 2021-2022 school year. • Remove the five-year cohort weight of 20% from the calculation of the graduation rate indicator. Alabama began using 100% of four-year cohort based on stakeholder feedback for Fall 2018.
