Research Question & hypothesis • Research Question: What are the socioeconomic and political factors that determine the corruption across countries in 2011? • Research hypothesis: Controlling for the level of political development, and level of literacy, countries with higher level of economic development will experience less corruption.
Data Description • Unit of analysis/study: Country • Reliability of the data: nationally representative, and represent for >172/195 countries worldwide

Bivariate analysis • CPI and GDP per capita: linear; CPI and Freedom level: linear; CPI and Literacy rate: curvy-linear.
Regression Analysis: DV = CPI • Correlations: statistically significant & positive; • Model 3 has highest Adj.R2 (=0.627) -> the best-fit model.
Findings & Policy Implications • Findings: research hypothesis accepted • #1: countries with higher GPD Per capita experience less corruption in 2011; (strongest correlation) • #2: countries where people are better educated experience less corruption in 2011; • #3: countries with higher political development experience less corruption in 2011. • Policy implications: • Focus efforts on improving living standard; • Provide more and better education for entire population; • Provide people with more political rights and freedom.
