World premiere Lakeside Arts Centre Nottingham 13 – 27 June 2013“Simply moving, excellent piece of work. It refreshed my reasons as to why I choose to work in the area of dementia” Modern Matron, MHSOP
Post-show discussions and a workshop designed for NHS staff will accompany the production, the event for staff will last all day. Participants will explore together how to improve communication with people with dementia using arts-based approaches. General public, including people with dementia and their families, can also see this production and post-show discussion.
Impact • 2,200 people saw the play, more than half HCAs released by their employers to attend one of 8 day-long learning events: • audience discussions chaired by NHS figureheads • workshops co-facilitated by the actors. • 93% rated the day as good-excellent • Local press, TV & radio coverage enhacned impact on public awareness
481 resolutions were made • Take time to look into their background to get a better understanding of that person (17/6/8) • To try to make less noise and to remember each patient as an individual and treat them accordingly (18/1/7) • To be understanding more and step back to evaluate the situation more, we got to do this watching the play (18/3/18)
The future • High Definition film for distribution to participating cinemas • Cinema Arts Network (CAN), has capability to distribute to 15 major venues around the UK including the Barbican, BFI Southbank, Cardiff Chapter, Manchester Cornerhouse, Dundee Contemporary Arts, Edinburgh Filmhouse, Liverpool FACT, Glasgow Film Theatre, Bradford National Media Museum, Derby QUAD, Belfast Queens Film Theatre, Sheffield Showroom and Newcastle Tyneside Cinema
Audience feedback • It has been an amazing day. I have learnt that people with dementia have feelings and I have learnt to appreciate how they must feel. (25/4/18) • Wonderful, knowledgeable play, excellent for giving an insight to people unaware of dementia and what can be experienced. Should be shown nationwide. (26/2/07)
