  2. LANCEOLATE • lanceolatelength greater than width, broadest at the base, narrowing to the apex, lance-shaped

  3. OVATE more or less rounded at both ends and broadest below the middle, egg-shaped

  4. ELLIPTICAL ellipse-shaped, narrow at each end, widest at the middle

  5. CORDATE more or less rounded the bottom and pointed at the tip

  6. OBLONG longer than wide, sides parallel, rectangular with rounded corners

  7. LINEAR • parallel sides, long and very narrow

  8. AURICULATE • having auricles -- ear-shaped lobes at the base of leaves

  9. OBOVATE • inversely ovate, broader above the middle than below

  10. OBLANCEOLATE • inversely lanceolate, • broader above the middle • and tapering to the base

  11. SPATULATE oblong with the basal end narrowed and the apical end rounded, spoon-shaped

  12. NEEDLE slender leaf of many conifers
