  3. What ers can do to offer career development. • Avoid reality shock • Job rotation • Challenging entry level jobs • Performance appraisals • Mentoring

  4. Managing promotions • Upward movement not the norm anymore • Based on seniority or competence. • Transfers (chance to promote) • Maintain employee commitment • Enrich jobs • Developmental opportunities • Job posting

  5. Know Your Law • Title Vll • ADEA • ADA • Promotion guideline must be clear and objective.

  6. Handling transfers • Chance to promote • Create new position for growth • Vacated position

  8. So...where are you going? • What career do you wish for?? • How will you keep your career on track?? • What is #1 reason why people get fired??? • Make yourself indispensible

  9. See your boss as a resource • May have to use reverse behavior modification. • Learn how to manage upwardly • Build bridges • Only skip the scalar chain if your wishing to find another job. • Know when to go • NO JOB IS WORTH YOUR HEALTH AND WELL BEING
