Core French Bonjour!
Saskatchewan!!!Par Les Trois Accords Hyah!!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fd2e0Sv2J9k
NCFS and Syllabi • National Core French Study • Broadens horizons and provides opportunities • Global Interdependence • Mobility
Ideally 1200 hours for proficiency • Ideally 5000 hours to be fully bilingual • High school, 300-400 hours • In Core French, we have to be realistic • more parents accept that a Core French program will not produce a functionally bilingual student, but that something less than functionally bilingual is still a worthwhile goal
attitudinal indicators: • that students are enthusiastic about learning French, • a supportive classroom atmosphere • desire to know more about the Francophone way of life • that students experience success in day-to-day activities • that students are involved in language use • that students derive satisfaction from achievement • that students express the ideal that it would be good to know another language and the people who speak it
Multidimensional approach • communicative/experiential syllabus • Unique way of learning • The syllabus focuses on the development of units centered around “fields of experience” appropriate to the age and interests of learners in which there is an experiential goal in mind.
learning a second language to practice communicating in real, meaningful situations- oral, reading, writing • to understand life in the eyes of people who will have different life experiences, different practices and different mindsets • Interdisciplinary • Draws on students experiences • Draws on other subjects
The Language Syllabus • The Cultural Syllabus • The General Language Education Syllabus.
All of the activities and lessons of the unit are taught using a contextualized approach • Focused on giving students the knowledge and tools to complete the experiential goal at the end of the unit • Student centered
Group/pair work • Modeling • Brainstorming • Concept attainment • Journal writing • Demonstration/Presentation • Role Playing
Summary • Objectives: • All activities and objectives work towards achieving the experiential goal of using the language. • Facilitate the development of language skills that will allow them to communicate effectively and accurately in the French Language. • Facilitate a positive attitude in learning French through exposure of Francophone cultures, diversity and the bilingual and multicultural context in Canada. • To foster a comprehension of the language learning process, the general nature of the language, and autonomy.
