A Summer of Troubling News • Move toward anarchy in Iraq • Closer to home, difficult news involving children – child in car to child locked in basement for nearly two years • Denominational wanderings* gay marriage is Christian marriage* another group sponsors gay games* refusal to protect aborted children that survive* Supreme Ct. rules Tmw on birth control

Bible: Difficult Times Will Come “But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come” (2 Timothy 3:1[-5])(see also 1 Timothy 4:1) "These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world“(John 16:33).

  4. Our Hope “…looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus” (Titus 2:13). Early church = “Maranatha!” So…why tarry?

  5. 1. God is allowing evil to run its course: Revelation 14:14-16 • Evil has a course to run.** a start; then progress; then** a conclusion • Fruit begins with the planted seed James 1:14-16 = sprouting, feeding, growing; maturity – ripe to reproduce • Baseball – 162 games/30 teams = 2,430

God allows time for Grace/Truth to precede His judgment Noah and the ark – 2 Peter 2:4-5 “preacher of righteousness” Sodom and Gomorrah – Genesis 19:12-24 O.T. prophets – Jonah preached to Nineveh – they repented / spared / Message of the prophets - repentMessage of John the Baptist – repentMessage of Jesus – repentMessage of the early church – repent

  7. 3. God adds to His church! 2 Peter 3:9; 1 Tim. 2:3-5 • The fullness of the Gentiles – Rom. 11:25 • In His plan, He saved you! • His plan also reaches others! * locally (Hidden Harbor et. al)* Calgary, Canada* transcontinentalIMB = 114,571 baptisms 6,192 new churches

  8. 4. What should we do? • Live like He’s coming back later today!** urgently reach out ** passionately respond to those God is sending our way! • Plan like He won’t be back for another 100 years!** 200-yr anniversary (2018) what “was”** and beyond
