The football player has seen two successfulseasons so far with the Brown Bears as he continues his studies at the Ivy League school at the same time. William Heikkinen, a star football player and academic high achiever, is replicating the success of his football career at Andover High School at Brown University, where he now plays for the Brown Bears. The student was a star athlete at his high school, breaking two school records as wide receiver with 126 catches and 1,960 yards, along with 22 touchdowns. So far, Heikkinen has seen similar success in the demanding role as a player for the nationally-renowned Brown Bears, bringing the mental ‘toughness’ that coach Phil Estes demands of all his players. William Heikkinen was praised by teammates, his coach and the local media alike during his Andover football days, being named Student Athlete of the Month by the Andover Eagle Tribune. The player was also two-time Merrimack Valley Conference All-Star, and was named First Team All-State by the Boston Globe and the Boston Herald. Keen to follow in the footsteps of the great professional football players that have gone before him, William jumped at the opportunity to learn with the best and develop his skills with the Brown Bears at Brown University. “I am really grateful to have this opportunity to play for the Brown Bears and get even better at what I do,” stated William Heikkinen, “It’s also a great honor for me to receive my education from such a great school such as Brown –it’s the perfect place to build upon the success I had at Andover High School.” In addition to William making a remarkableimpact in the Andover High School football team, the student was also very committed to the community during his high school days. During his senior year, William mentored and tutoredchildren at the Robert L. Frost Elementary School in Lawrence in order to encourage them to reach their academic potential. This volunteering experience was a great success, with teachers at the school noting that children not only improved academically but also benefited from a boost in self-esteem and confidence after the contribution of William and his fellow classmates. William also experienced a great deal of high school academic success to go along with his winning streak on the football field; the star player made the Honor Roll every term and received the Chemistry and Survey of Film Underclassmen award at Andover High School. As well as William making a remarkableimpact in the Andover High School football team, Heikkinen has proven that he can succeed academically as well as athletically.
