The Call of God John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world should be saved through Him. John bore witness of Him, and cried out, saying, "This was He of whom I said, `He who comes after me has a higher rank than I, for He existed before me.'" For of His fulness we have all received, and grace upon grace. For the Law was given through Moses; grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ. No man has seen God at any time; the only begotten God, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has explained {Him.} (NAS) He has made everything appropriate in its time. He has also set eternity in their heart, yet so that man will not find out the work which God has done from the beginning even to the end. Ephesians 2:14-17 For He Himself [Jesus Christ] is our peace, who made both {groups [Jews and Gentiles] into} one, [the spiritual Body of Christ Universal] and broke down the barrier of the dividing wall, [reference to the wall around the inner court of the Old Testament tabernacle which separated Jews from Gentiles] by abolishing in His flesh [on the Cross] the enmity, {which is} the Law of commandments {contained} in ordinances [Mosaic Law], that in Himself He might make the two into one new man, {thus} establishing peace, and might reconcile them both [Jews and Gentiles] in one body [the spiritual Body of Christ] to God through the cross, by it [the Cross] having put to death the enmity [Mosaic Law]. And He came and preached peace to you who were far away [Gentiles], and peace to those who were near [Jews]; for through Him we both[Jews and Gentiles] have our access in one Spirit to the Father. (Expanded Translation) The Doctrine of Salvation Colossians 1:19-20 For it was the {Father's} good pleasure for all the fulness [of Deity] to dwell in Him, and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross; through Him, {I say}, whether things on earth or things in heaven. The Doctrine of Salvation Leviticus 3:1-5 Now if his offering is a sacrifice of peace offerings, if he is going to offer out of the herd, whether male or female, he shall offer it without defect before the LORD. And he shall lay his hand on the head of his offering and slay it at the doorway of the tent of meeting, and Aaron's sons, the priests, shall sprinkle the blood around on the altar. And from the sacrifice of the peace offerings, he shall present an offering by fire to the LORD, the fat that covers the entrails and all the fat that is on the entrails, and the two kidneys with the fat that is on them, which is on the loins, and the lobe of the liver, which he shall remove with the kidneys. Then Aaron's sons shall offer {it} up in smoke on the altar on the burnt offering, which is on the wood that is on the fire; it is an offering by fire of a soothing aroma to the LORD. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were entreating through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. (NAS) RECONCILIATION • The peace offering of Leviticus 3 depicts the doctrine of reconciliation. • Every member of the royal family of God (spiritual body of Christ) is an ambassador representing Christ on earth. • Therefore, each member of the royal family has the ministry of reconciliation.

(NAS)], [the Son’s return to the Father was evidence that He had secured the provision of perfect righteousness for sinners; it was to be theirs now through faith alone in Christ alone] 7 "But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper [the Holy Spirit] shall not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you. 8 "And He [the Holy Spirit], when He comes, will convict [enlighten] the world concerning sin [genitive singular of a(marti/a (hamartia)], and righteousness, and judgment; 9 concerning sin, because they do not believe in Me; 10 and concerning righteousness because I go to the Father, and you no longer behold Me; 11 and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world [Satan] has been judged. (NAS) [that is the sin: unbelief; rejection of Jesus Christ]

The Myth of Conviction • This work of enlightenment, known theologically as common grace, overcomes the blindness which Satan has imposed respecting the gospel. 2 Corinthians 4:3-4 And even if our gospel is veiled [hidden, concealed], it is veiled to those who are perishing, [unbelievers] in whose case the god of this world [Satan] has blinded the minds of the unbelieving, that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. (NAS)
The Myth of Conviction CONVICTION • OF SIN • Reference here is to the one sin that "they believe not on me." • He reveals to the unsaved simply the one sin of REJECTING CHRIST. • OF RIGHTEOUSNESS • in the invisible Christ now at the right hand of God has been provided every merit and quality which one could ever need for time or eternity
The Myth of Conviction CONVICTION • OF SIN • OF RIGHTEOUSNESS • OF JUDGMENT • In the use of the word judgment at this point allusion is made to the cross of Christ by which Satan, "the prince of this world," was judged. • The entire fact has to do with Satan's hold upon humanity on the ground that they are unlike God through sin. Colossians 2:14-15 having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us {and} which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. When He had disarmed the rulers and authorities, He made a public display of them, having triumphed over them through the cross. (NAS)
The unsaved are expected to recognize that they, like criminals, only to have Another, by His own choice, intervene and suffer execution in the sinner's stead. The Myth of Conviction John 1:29 The next day he saw Jesus coming to him, and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! The Doctrine of Salvation REPENTANCE means to change one’s thinking, or to change the mind. • Repentance is a rational decision based on thought, not emotion. • The unbeliever must first “change his mind” about who Jesus Christ is and what He did for mankind on the cross and then trusting in Him and His work brings salvation. • “Repent of your sin” does not mean that you are to feel sorry for your sin. Romans 2:4 Or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance? (NAS) Mark 1:14-15 And after John had been taken into custody, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of God, and saying, "The time is fulfilled and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel." (NAS)
The Doctrine of Salvation REPENTANCE • The inhale is the principle of common grace, in which the Holy Spirit takes the message of the witness and makes it a reality in the mentality of the unbeliever. • After full understanding, positive volition expresses itself in a change of mental attitude: FAITH IN CHRIST. • A change in mental attitude about the person and work of Christ equals repentance. • Repentance results in the exhale of faith in Jesus Christ: salvation adjustment to the justice of God. John 16:8-11 "And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment; concerning sin, because they do not believe in Me; and concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father and you no longer see Me; and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged. (NASB) 2 Timothy 2:25 with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition, if perhaps God may grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth, (NAS) 1 Corinthians 2:14 But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God; for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised. (NAS)
The Doctrine of Salvation REPENTANCE • Emotion never saves anyone. • Feeling sorry for your sins does not save you, only faith in Christ saves you. • Spiritual growth demands repentance toward human good • Human good is dead to the plan and policy of God. • Human good is linked with arrogance and produces boasting Ephesians 2:9 not as a result of works, that no one should boast. (NAS) Romans 4:2 For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about; but not before God. (NAS) Hebrews 6:1 Therefore leaving the elementary teaching about the Christ, let us press on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, (NAS)
The Doctrine of Salvation 1 Corinthians 3:11-15 For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if any man builds upon the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, each man's work will become evident; for the day will show it, because it is {to be} revealed with fire; and the fire itself will test the quality of each man's work. If any man's work which he has built upon it remains, he shall receive a reward. If any man's work is burned up, he shall suffer loss; but he himself shall be saved, yet so as through fire. (NAS) Revelation 20:12-15 And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is {the book} of life; and the dead were judged from the things which were written in the books, according to their deeds. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead which were in them; and they were judged, every one {of them} according to their deeds. And death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire. (NAS) REPENTANCE • Human good is never acceptable to God • Human good will not save man • Unbeliever human good will be judged • The believer's human good will be judged at the Judgment Seat of Christ Isaiah 64:6 For all of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous deeds are like a filthy garment; and all of us wither like a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away. (NAS) 2 Corinthians 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad. (NAS) Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, {it is} the gift of God; not as a result of works, that no one should boast. (NAS)
The Doctrine of Salvation REPENTANCE • An ANTHROPOPATHISM ascribes to God a human characteristic He does not possess, but explains divine policy in terms of human frame of reference. • God never changes His mind, but is said to in such passages as • God is immutable and does not change. Exodus 32:11-14 Then Moses entreated the LORD his God, and said, "O LORD, why doth Thine anger burn against Thy people whom Thou hast brought out from the land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand? "Why should the Egyptians speak, saying, `With evil {intent} He brought them out to kill them in the mountains and to destroy them from the face of the earth'? Turn from Thy burning anger and change Thy mind about {doing} harm to Thy people. "Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, Thy servants to whom Thou didst swear by Thyself, and didst say to them, `I will multiply your descendants as the stars of the heavens, and all this land of which I have spoken I will give to your descendants, and they shall inherit {it} forever.'" So the LORD changed His mind about the harm which He said He would do to His people. (NAS) Genesis 6:6 And the LORD was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart. (NAS) 1 Samuel 15:35 And Samuel did not see Saul again until the day of his death; for Samuel grieved over Saul. And the LORD regretted that He had made Saul king over Israel. (NAS) Psalm 90:11-13 Who understands the power of Thine anger, and Thy fury, according to the fear that is due Thee? So teach us to number our days, that we may present to Thee a heart of wisdom. Do return, O LORD; how long {will it be}? And be sorry for Thy servants. (NAS) Jeremiah 26:3 `Perhaps they will listen and everyone will turn from his evil way, that I may repent of the calamity which I am planning to do to them because of the evil of their deeds.' (NAS) Jeremiah 26:13 "Now therefore amend your ways and your deeds, and obey the voice of the LORD your God; and the LORD will change His mind about the misfortune which He has pronounced against you. (NAS)
REPENTANCE METAMELOMAI Versus METANOEO. METAMELOMAI should be translated REGRET. It means to feel sorry for something you've done. It is used for regretting a previous action, It is used for the attitude of Judas Iscariot, It is used for God having no regrets about saving people, both Jews and Gentiles, in this present Age, The Father has no regrets regarding the appointment of Jesus Christ as our High Priest. The Doctrine of Salvation Hebrews 7:21 (For those priests were made without an oath; but this with an oath by him that said unto him, The Lord sware and will not repent [metamelhqhvsetai(metamelethestai)], Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec:) (KJV) Matthew 21:29 He answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented [metamelhqei;" (metameleetheis)], and went. (KJV) Matthew 27:3 Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented [ metamelhqei;" (metameleetheis) ] himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, (KJV) Romans 11:29 For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance [ajmetamevlhta(ametameleta)].
