The Benedictine Health System is a Catholic organization entrusted with advancing the health care ministry of the Benedictine Sisters of Duluth, Minnesota.  Our mission is to witness to God's love by providing compassionate, quality care with special concern for the underserved and those in need.

  3. Mission is: • A direct link to the identity and history of the Benedictine Sisters of St. Scholastica Monastery • More than a mission statement • The art of what we do and the focus of how each person does his or her work

  4. Three Components of Mission • Creed - fundamental belief statements • Code - moral standards of behavior • Culture - ritual practices

  5. Creed Statements about who we are and what we believe • Mission and Vision Statements • Core Values • Distinguishing Characteristics

  6. Code Standards, policies and practices • BHS Service Standards • Compliance Policies • Clinical Philosophy and Standards • Spiritual Care Standards and Policies • Ethical Standards and Policies; ERDs • Community Benefit practices

  7. Culture Ritual practices • Prayer practices • Worship • Symbolic displays • Key stories • Key people • Awards and recognitions

Mission Mindfulness • Ongoing process that continues to building upon itself • Overall effort to implant and energize the expressed mission and values of BHS • Rooted in the Benedictine values and traditions of the Sisters • Evident in the special spirit of caring that is part of the culture • It is pursued collectively and expressed individually

  9. Mission • Is meant for all • Is what unites us as a system and within facilities • Is what gives us purpose, keeps us grounded and provides us direction • Is how we live out Benedict’s charge to care for the sick above all else • Is how we give shape to Jesus’ call to be of service
