California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress Science Assessments Implementation (DRAFT) 1998 Adoption of rigorous Science content standards adopted 2004 Administration of CST Science ESEA in grade 5 2006 CST Science ESEA in grades 8 and 10 administered 2008 Administration of CAPA Science in grade 5, 8, and 10 2010 Administration of CMA Science in grade 5, 8, and 10 2013 Assembly Bill (AB) 484 signed into law: • Establishes CAASPP System to replace the Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) Program • Takes effect in January, 2014 • Eliminates all science tests, except for the ESEA-required tests (CST, CMA, CAPA in grades 5, 8, & 10) • Authorizes the development of new assessments aligned to the NGSS • Requires the SSPI to develop science assessment recommendations with California science education stakeholder input • Requires the SSPI to submit to the SBE, no later than March 1, 2016, recommendations for assessments to augment the ESEA tests and to expand CAASPP Sept 2013 Adoption of California NGSS and beginning of the California Science Framework development process (Senate Bill [SB] 300) (2013–14, 2014–15, & 2015–16 Spring Administrations) Administration of ESEA – required CST, CMA, CAPA Science tests in grades 5, 8, and 10
