Grammar & Mechanics The uses of “s” • What does having an –s or -es at the end of a word mean for a noun? • What does an –s or –es mean at the end of a verb? • What about a ’s? A s’?
Grammar & Mechanics For each of the sentences below, indicate whether the use of –s is correct. If not, explain how to correct it. • August 16 was Ashers birthday. • The students’s days were very busy. • Vanessa goes to the bank and cashes checks every Tuesday.
Reading & writing The Knights of the Round Table There are many legends about the group of men called the Knights of the Round Table. Obviously, this was the group’s title because they made plans at a great round table. Legends told about each knight and how he promised to serve King Arthur. The knights also vowed to follow a code: to aid any lady who asked for help, to protect the weak and innocent, to fight evildoers, and to defend each other courageously. People of all ages enjoy legends about the brotherhood of warriors known as the Knights of the Round Table. • Pick out three-to-five of the most important facts from the paragraph above
Reading & writing Write your own one-paragraph story about a group of people. They can be real or fictitious. Be ready to share it with the class!
Extra practice • Write down any new words you encounter, write down their definitions, and practice using them. • Keep reading, and keep writing your own original stories.
