Design Loads • Many loads are determined as UNIT LOADS are typically computed on either a horizontal or vertical projection. • Unit loads are a representative APPROXIMATION of the pressure acting over a surface. • Total load and it’s distribution on structural elements can often be determined using unit loads and TRIBUTARY AREAS. • See the Beginner’s Guide to Structural Mechanics and the textbook for more information about tributary areas and load computations.
