India produces 250 million tonnes of food every year; 65 per cent of the population is engaged in agriculture. The country is home to a quarter of all undernourished people worldwide . An estimated 32.7 percent of the Indian population lives on less than US$ 1.25 per day. Food worth a Rs 44,000 crore go waste each year. Hunger in India
A vulgar show of wealth • The worst wastage of food in India takes place in weddings and other social gatherings. And this food is enough to feed LAKHS of children.
Helping those in need • A possible solution is to channel this left over food by joining hands with various NGOs which will help identify communities in need.
Businesses want to be socially responsible in today's world. Approaching these firms to raise funds for the implementation of transferring leftover food to the beneficiaries is a viable option.
A wareness ction • I will encourage others to support this grave problem by writing articles about it in the newspapers and magazines to make more people aware, AS AWARENESS LEADS TO ACTION.
Success Criteria • To measure the effectiveness, I will use the following two criterion with the help of interviews and surveys : • Standard of living- indicating the increase in level of confidence due to a healthier life. • Hunger Index- calculating the decrease in number of malnourished people and the level of contribution towards the growth of the economy.
We can also do our bit to help the society by exploiting the imbalance between the rich and the poor so as to create total accessibility to food. IF WE ARE NOT PART OF THE SOLUTION, WE ARE THE PROBLEM.
