INSULIN FOR LIFE Australia What is it? • A not-for-profit organization established in 1999 in Melbourne, Australia Background: • expands the activities of the International Insulin Distribution Program, International Diabetes Institute,Australia, 1986 – 1999, based on not wasting insulin etc Objectives: • urgent short - term and continuous overseas supply of insulin and other items • mentoring similar programs in other countries • sustainable improvement in the cost of insulin to the user and in its availability in countries in need.

  7. ECONOMICS OF THE PROGRAM Vials donated in 16 years = 123,000 (1,230,000 mls) Operating costs = $US 160,000($AUD 260,000) People supplied for 1 month = 123,000  Cost of each 10ml vial supplied= $US 1.30 ($AUD 2.15)
