Action: • i) Chose a more diverse range of assessment methods to give students more responsibility (Pre-seen Exam and ‘Learning Portfolio’) • ii) Introduced an innovative use of electronic feedback system via ‘Grade Center’ on Blackboard 3. Assessment of Learning Portfolio: i) Clear guidance on learning outcomes of each week’s assessment ii) The interactive use of ET (Grade Center) by students and teachers iii) Supporting students’ independent learning 1. Problem: i) Traditional methods of assessment do not help students to take responsibility for their learning process and become independent and reflective learners iii) How to use ET to improve feedback to students and reduce workload for instructors 6. Reflections for Future Practice: i. Use of learning portfolios is an effective teaching medium to support independent and reflective learning ii. Maximum use of electronic feedback system such as Grade Center is necessary to minimize instructor’s time and effort for assessment Student-to-teacher 4. Electronic Feedback System:i) Written and instant explanations to students to point out where they went right and wrongii) One-to-one interactive feedback to assess specific needs and level of each studentiii) Openness to student interaction on feedback process via Grade Center and email 5. Self-Evaluation: Advantages: i) Students take responsibility for their learning process; ii) Learning Portfolios can reflect each student’s development individually; iii) Students can assess their own learning progress in their portfolios; iv) Students can learn from interactive feedback effectively; and v) Students gain confidence as independent and reflective learners Disadvantages: i) Learning portfolios require more time to prepare and assess; ii) Providing interactive feedback is also time consuming for instructors
