Biography • Born on October 11,1884, 56 West 37th street, New York City • Parents names are Elliot Roosevelt, and Anna Roosevelt • Married Franklin Roosevelt • Had 6 children • Names of children: Anna, James, Elliot, Franklin Junior, and John. There was also another Franklin Junior who died a few months after birth of an unknown fever.
Biography • Orphaned at the age of 10. • Went to live with her grandmother, Mrs. Valentine G. Hall. • After her grandmother died, she went to live with Uncle Ted (Theodore Roosevelt) • Learned English before French • 22 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren • Real name is Anna Eleanor Roosevelt
Personal Qualities • Determined to make a difference • Shy as a child • Known for being ugly tall and gawky • Known for astounding gray blue eyes • Loved hot dogs. Served king and queen of England their first ever hot dog! • Swam laps every day • Avid horseback rider
Motivation • Wanted women to be able to vote • Wanted all humans to have equal rights • Was motivated to help Franklin politically and physically. • The headmistress at Allenswood Academy helped her to be motivated to regain her confidence
Hardships • Father was an alcoholic • Mother was mean to her • Little brother Elliot died of diphtheria
Accomplishments • Drafted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Bill of Rights • Persuaded congress to start National Teacher Day
Interesting Information • Was known for being smart but ugly, the opposite of Franklin • Before she married Franklin, she was against women voting • As a child, she wanted to be a singer
