  1. Jerry Lodriguss Sports/ Astronomy Photographer

  2. Jerry Lodriguss' professional career began in 1974 working part time shooting high school sports for $5 per picture at a small suburban weekly newspaper in New Orleans. He then worked as a staff photographer for the Times-Picayune in New Orleans, and as Louisiana Newspicture Bureau Manager for United Press International. After leaving UPI, he freelanced Sports Illustrated, Time, Newsweek, The New York Times, Washington Post, and USA Today. From 1987 until 2009 he worked at the Philadelphia Inquirer as their staff sports photographer. Jerry also takes astrophotos of objects such as nebulae and galaxies and has published three books. Biography

  3. The type of photography Jerry captures or takes is motion photography. For example he took this picture of a pitcher in motion throwing a fastball. Type of Photography

  4. What’s so neat about it • What's so cool about this type of photography is that he captures athletes in motion. This is very neat because his pictures capture the moment in games where the exciting part is about to happen.

  5. Equipment • He’s been using digital cameras now full time, every day, since the end of 1999. For a couple of years in the beginning, they were difficult to use. The autofocus didn't work, they produced small file sizes, and had difficulty with color and noise. Now, he loves them and would never go back to film. Still, it is a love / hate relationship. The technical quality of the color and noise can be excellent, but the autofocus with the 1D Mark III is a problem.

  6. Other pictures • Jerry also takes pictures of space. This type of photography is Astrophotography. This picture is called The great galaxy in Andromeda.

  7. Books • Jerry has also written 3 books. They are all about astrophotography. The 3 books are called A Beginners Guide To DSRL Astrophotography, An Advanced Guide with Astrophotography with DSLR Cameras, and Photo shops for Astrophotographers.

  8. Favorite picture • This is one of Jerry’s favorite picture. This picture was taken in New Orleans. Ever since he first started taking photos he always wanted to take this picture.

  9. Used equipment • The top left camera is worth 1,000$. The top right camera is worth 6000$. The bottom left camera is worth 4000$ and the lens at the bottom is worth around 200$. As you can see Pro Cameras are very exspensive.

  10. Reference • All of the info and the pictures are from astropix.com. Thank you for watching our PowerPoint.
