T A S K 3 Module 8 Analysis Exercise The purpose of this exercise is to walk you through a 12-step analysis process (see slide 5) using the documents and the automated tools provided. There are tasks associated with each step of the process. To begin this exercise, we recommend you open and minimize all of the documents (if you haven’t or can’t print them for reference) and tools (you will need to use wInsight and MS Project). This will allow you to readily move between documents, using the Microsoft Windows Navigation buttons at the bottom of your screen, as you step through this exercise. “CLICK” TO CONTINUE…
T A S K 3 TASK 3 In Task 3, you will complete steps 6 through 8 of the analysis process (see next slide). To complete these steps you first perform a network schedule analysis. Next you identify any changes to the baseline. Changes to the contract baseline can occur as a result of contract modifications, application of Management Reserve (MR) or assignment of Undistributed Budget (UB). Since contract baseline integrity should be maintained, it is important to identify any baseline changes and determine the source and cause. Finally, you perform an analysis of schedule drivers. What – Evaluate the current schedule’s critical path, forecast milestone completion dates and the schedule status of the technical drivers from Step 4 (Task 1). You may need to refer to WBS numbers in wInsight to identify which items are being referred to. To see the WBS numbers in Project, highlight the “TASK NAME” column, and select INSERT => COLUMN , and then in the “Column Definition” box, under “Field Name”, select “WBS”. The “WBS” column should appear to the left of the “TASK NAME” column. T A S K 3 Step 7 – PMB Analysis Why – The PMB is the plan against which progress is measured. Changes must be controlled and the causes analyzed for impact on contract performance. What – Ensure the PMB represents the current plan for accomplishing the remaining work, and that it incorporates any approved changes. Review the CPR Format Three and Format Five (not required in this exercise) to identify any PMB changes and the contractor’s explanation for them. Review the amount/use of management reserve (MR); examine the amount of undistributed budget (UB); and evaluate any single point adjustments (SPAs) and/or over target baselines (OTBs).
