  1. Biodiversity in Swamps KaitlynnLanter Period 5

  2. Swamps There are two reasons I chose a swamp • Swamps are dark, dank, and at times creepy • There are many cool stories of creatures like swamp monster’s (yes I know they’re not real but it is still fun to fantasize)

  3. Green house gases • Green house gas will always effect animals but what some people don’t know is that swamps also contribute to the increase in green house gas • They emit swamp gas which contain things like methane carbon- monoxide and other harmful gases • However they support a diversity of life and are necessary

  4. Global Warming • Everyone knows to watch out for these animals in a swamp. However global warming may just extinct them given time. • Research shows that temperature affects the gender of these and other reptiles off-spring • Should the temperature continue to raise the birth of one sex of theses creatures may stop altogether, leading to extinction • Also the mangroves, commonly found in swamps, will not be able to compensate for the raising water levels and will cease to exist

  5. Relationships • Predator-Prey: Alligators eat any animals that venture too close from fish to deer • Mutualism: Lichen is algae and fungi on a tree. The fungus give water to the algae and the algae uses that to make food for both organisms • Commensalism: Lily pads and frogs
