Meeting on OGC Sensor Observation Service (SOS) for INSPIRE Christian Ansorge – European Environment Agency
Previous SOS experiences • Scope: • Air Quality Reporting – Dissemination of AQ data • Delivered content: • Air quality (provided) • Noise (consumed) • Technologies / software used: • ArcGIS – Server Extension
Existing connections to INSPIRE • Other download services available: • WFS for several environmental themes • Cross-reference of download services: • Not yet
Discussion: Why an INSPIRE/SOS? • General question: • Extended filtering features • But • Can SOS be discussed independent from the schema it originally serves (O&M, SensorML)?
Discussion: Technical issues • Generic data model vs. specific thematic needs • Is a service customized regarding specific thematic needs still a standard SOS? • Large amount of data difficult to handle (XML encoded)
Discussion: Download service TG options • Do you see any problems (in terms of support in the MS) with defining yet another TG option (SOS in addition to Atom and WFS) for INSPIRE download services? • …
Discussion: Wish list • Which features would you like to see in an INSPIRE download service for observation data? • Harmonization and coordination of specific application profiles of O&M • Operational SOS showcase within mixed technology SDI framework • Support for NetCDF (to avoid huge size of XML files)
Additional information • Please feel free to include any additional information to support the discussion (these will not be presented at the workshop, but shared with the other participants before the workshop and uploaded to the workshop page together with the minutes)
