2016 Digital Trials & Pilots Recap • Evaluation report is being prepared; likely to be published March 2017 • Includes: • Level of school / student participation cut by a range of dimensions • Student, teacher, marker, examination centre and NZQA staff feedback • Withdrawal of the L 1 French Pilot because of likely variable student experience • Variable student experience with “anti-breach” software especially for L1 English • Some SAC candidates withdrew when we confirmed there was no spellcheck available • Psychometric analysis (limited because of numbers), including a Māori & Pasifika perspective • Overall, the feedback very useful, largely positive & actionable • Widespread recognition that the Trials & Pilots are designed to accelerate our collective learning while keeping students safe
2016 school engagement in digital external moderation 42% made at least one online submission 7% submitted all work digitally 12% of the total moderation was submitted digitally

Work ‘born’ digitally should be submitted digitally The shift to digital external moderation submission can be facilitated by: • providing professional support to assist teachers to have the skills and confidence to submit digital evidence for external moderation • having in place digital storage processes to store the random selection ready for submission (including assessment task and schedule)

Activity: Why do schools formally engage with external providers?
A provider code identifies responsibility for: internal moderation external moderation quality management systems Refer Circular page 48 A2015/024
Whose provider code is to be used when an external provider is the assessor?
Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) A MOU: must be in place where an external provider code is used documents the relationship between the school and the consented assessor
Activity Read the MOU template on page 19 and 20 of your handbook. In your group Cross-reference the elements of a MOU with the checklist (page 21 of handbook) For the highlighted elements, what risks exist if the element is missing?
Activity Read Personal Best Gym MOU on pages 22 and 23 of your handbook Identify and discuss any shortfalls or gaps identified in the relationship
As PN, how do you: make your staff aware of the need for a MOU? know there is a MOU with all external providers? know that the external provider is consented? know that quality assurance is occurring?
Students transferring to your school during the year your school needs to re-report all internally assessed results against the other school’s code contact the other school to ensure all results are entered
