objective : * At the end of the presentation, we must know the ways to protect the elderly from any danger they are exposed to, and find out what are the main reasons that put them at risk.
definition of elderly home care: The elderly population is growing, and many people need assistance and care in a healthy and safe environment. The elderly face a broad range of medical and physical needs that require assistance and supervision on a temporary or full-time basis, depending on their needs.

Safety Room - Lighting—night lamp - two switches for putting on and off the light at 2 ends of the room/staircase. - Floor light as in the theaters Remote control for fan, light, ac.TV. - Alarm with neighbors. - Alarm with local police.
Safety Room - Skid proof floor; not marble. - Telephone handy with list of emergency . e.g.Doc, relations; elders help line, friends, - Medicines taking daily. - If you have stairs inside or on the exterior of your home, make sure they are in good shape with .adequate handrails to steady your climb
Safety Room * Doors : - Entrance must have double doors. The outer door must have a grill to see/collect paper; letters. - Never open the door unless you know the person. - Lock must be put in between the 2 doors when you are out. - A door alarm at the entrance/to call the neighbor in emergency. - Never allow any one to photograph your house. - Large door handles .
Safety Room : * Furniture Arrangement - Table adjust height if needed. Must not be very low or . high . Height elevators may be used - Chairs sofas must be of comfortable height. The handles must be about 4 ins.
Safety Room - front of the edge of the chair for easy leverage. - No obstruction for free movement while walking e.g. toys, carpets . - Do not change the position of furniture often.
Safety Room * Bathroom : - Skid proof floor. - Western type toilet .proper height ;adjust if required - Hand clasps - Door of the bathroom must open outwards. - Taps—not dripping, easily handled knobs .
Safety Room - Cabinet must contain all daily used items .e.g. Tooth paste/brush/,soap/napkin/ towel etc. - Mirror –adequate height. - the older you get, the more sensitive your skin is to burns, so turn down your water heater to at least 120 .degrees
Anticipate disabilities & prevent accidents - Visual—encourage use of glasses and a magnifying glass. - Maintain balance--use of walking stick, with a proper height & firm base hold the helping hand. - Hearing—use of hearing aid - Proper fitting dentures.
Effect of Abuse on Health of Elderly • - Abuse creates potentially dangerous situation and feelings of worthlessness and it isolates elderly from people who can help. - Many of us don’t consider Elder Abuse as Health Issue and so we don’t try to intervene as we consider this more as a social problem care problem .
Effect of Abuse on Health of Elderly - Single repeated act . - Lack of appropriate action. - Occurring within any relationship where there is an expectation of trust. - Harming development of his/her personality . - Elder Abuse is infliction of Physical, emotional or psychological harm on an Elderly. Alder Abuse also can take the form of Financial exploitation or intentional or unintentional neglect of an Elderly by the care givers or third party. - It affects body, feelings, thoughts, and behaviors to varying degree .- medical or mental conditions Untreated
