Social networking sites allow people to share messages, photos and even videos with friends and family Signing up with a site like Facebook can connect you with many people all over the world.
Sharing with our friends and family online doesn’t mean we have to give out our personal information. YOU control WHO sees your information After you create an account and make a profile, go to Privacy Settings Profile = a brief description of yourself
These are optional. You do not have to give this information Basic profile information includes your name, gender, birth date and email address
If you put information about yourself on your profile, you can decide who will be able to see it
There are 5 main settings that control who can see your Facebook page: Everyone = Anyone on the internet Friends of Friends People who know your friends = Friends Only = People you know Recommended Facebook’s recommendation = Custom = Your personal choices
These Privacy levels tell Facebook who may see your information Your Information
Question: If you select Everyone from this menu, who can see your birthday? Answer:Everyone= anyone on the internet
Question: Who can see your information If your privacy setting is on Friends Only Answer:Friends Only = People you know
Facebooksuggests allowing some of your information to be seen by Everyone, some by Friends of Friends, and some by Friends Only.
Custom = Your personal choices
Q: Who can see your Contact information with this custom setting? A:Only Me (your personal choice)
When you see the “lock” icon, you can adjust your privacy settings. Q: Who can see this photo album? A:Friends Only = People I know
