Dictionary Usage • Sometimes studying involves looking words up in a dictionary. • You many need to see if you have spelled a word correctly. • You may want to check a word meaning. • A dictionary provides four important pieces of information: 1) the correct spelling, 2)pronunciation, 3) meanings, and 4) usage of words.

  3. Review • What four important things are found in the dictionary? • 1) the correct spelling, 2)pronunciation, 3) meanings, and 4) usage of words

  4. Alphabetizing • Alphabetizing, or recognizing the alphabetical order of things, is an essential skill necessary to better utilize the dictionary. • When the first letter of a group of words is different, alphabetizing is simple; you only have to look at that first letter.
