GCSE English Language will be graded on the new 1-9 scale. English Language Tuesday 6 June 2017 Paper 1: 1 Hour 45 Minutes, 80 Marks, 50% of the GCSE Section A Reading: Unseen Literary Extract to read. 4 Questions to answer Section B Writing: Descriptive or Narrative Writing. 1 Question to answer Monday 12 June 2017 Paper 2: 1 Hour 45 Minutes, 80 Marks, 50% of the GCSE Section A Reading: 2 Unseen Non-Fiction Texts. 4 Questions to answer Section B Writing: Writing to present a viewpoint (argue, persuade, advise). 1 Question to answer GCSE English Language
Ways to support your child’s success: • Encouraging Reading – not just books! • Asking questions and developing oral responses. • Quizzing and testing – key terminology/concepts. • Investing in revision guides/workbooks. • Encouraging timed written response to exam questions/tasks. • Asking for your child’s help with ‘real life’ writing. • Encourage attendance of period 6 revision (Thursday) GCSE English Language

English Literature Monday 22nd May 2017 Paper 1: 1 Hour 45 Mins, 64 Marks, 40% of the GCSE Section A Shakespeare: 1 Question based on a Shakespeare play studied in class Macbeth by William Shakespeare Section B 19 Century Novel: 1 Question based on a novel studied in class A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens Friday 26th May 2017 Paper 2: 2 Hours 15 Mins, 96 Marks, 60% of the GCSE Section A Modern Texts: Answer 1 Question on a text studied in class An Inspector Calls by J.B. Priestley Section B Poetry: Answer 1 Question based on poetry studied in class Poems from the ‘Power and Conflict’ Anthology Cluster Section C: Unseen Poetry: Answer two questions based on unseen poems
Ways to support your child’s success: • Encouraging re-reading of the key texts. • Asking questions about texts and developing oral responses. • Quizzing and testing – key terminology/quotes. • Encourage quote displays – bedroom, mobile phone, in cupboards etc • Investing in revision guides/workbooks. • Encouraging timed written response to exam questions/tasks. • Encourage attendance of period 6 revision (Thursday) GCSE English Literature
