Yoga Skills Test • Purpose: • The purpose of this skills test is to assess the student’s ability to perform a basic yoga skill using the correct body positions and alignments. • Equipment Needed: • The equipment needed is loose fitting clothes, yoga mat, and yoga blocks (if not flexible) for each student.

  3. Instructions • The student is to get into the starting position. Upon the teachers command, the student is to perform the skill. The student is to hold the pose as long as he/she can or until the teacher says to stop. The student will have 2 chances to perform this pose, if needed. The best attempt will be the one that is graded.

  4. Scoring Procedure • Put a check mark in the correct boxes under attempt 1 if the student is successful in accomplishing the individual criteria. If the student is unsuccessful, place an “X” in the box. If the student wishes to perform the pose again, do the same under attempt 2. The best attempt will be the one that is graded. This pose is worth 20 or 25 points if performed perfectly.* • *Downward-Facing Dog=25 points and Triangle Pose= 20 points

  6. Test Modifications • If needed, the student may use yoga blocks if he/she is not flexible enough. If the student’s hamstrings are tight, the student may slightly flex the knee.

  7. Tasks for Non-Testing Students • It is recommended that each student partner up with another student and practice the skill criteria to make sure that each student is meeting them. One student can evaluate the other student performing the skill. *Pay special attention to the student’s back during the pose!!!

  13. Missed Criteria • The student sinks back and lowers the heels - 6/13 • The student keeps his/her head between his/her arms - 1/13 • The student’s back is not over or under arched - 1/13 • The student’s fingers are spread - 1/13 • Didn’t make time - 4/13

  15. Test Modifications • If needed, the student may use yoga blocks if he/she is not flexible enough. The student may place the lower hand on the shin, foot, or floor to add stability.
