BEGINNINGS • Summer 2011: Research by the European Youth Forum into youth participation at European Parliament elections, analysis of election campaigns across Europe. • Two sided problem: Young people do not trust politicians, politicians do not often address young people. • Not enough information for young people; politicians did not focus on issues of interest to young people: no dialogue.
What is the League of Young Voters? • Non-partisan initiative that seeks to inform young people about the European Parliament elections • Provides an overview of the issues at stake for young people during the election campaign • Mobilising European political parties to address issues of concern to young people • Encouraging the dialogue between young people and candidates/ political parties • Mobilising all youth-related campaigns under into one common Pan-European youth movement
The League of Young Voters at national level • Activities for young people carried out by National Youth Councils and international youth organisations. • Analysis of national election campaign manifestos. • Connection of all campaigns across the EU to make a pan-European electoral platform for young people
