  1. Student SessionRapporteur’s SummaryGeorge DonohueHartmut FrickeSC & Support: Vu Duong

  2. Where papers came from … • 9 papers were presented • 6 from European Universities • Dresden Technical University • University Paris – Sorbonne, France • University Trieste, Italy • University Zagreb, Croatia • University Zilina (2), Slovakia • 3 from US Universities • George Mason University • Massachusetts Institute of Technology • San Jose State University

  3. Themes tackled • 9 papers dealing with • Human Factors (2 papers) • Education (1 paper) • Safety (1 paper) • Airport Management (2 papers) • Air Traffic Management (3 papers) Student Session

  4. GeneralFeeling • Well attended • Well structured and investigated papers & presentations • A major contribution to initiate contacts between „settled“ and „newcomer“ people • Several Papers Recognized the Larger Systems Constraints and Control Opportunities of Market Forces

  5. Findings (1/2) • Human Factors: Although the use of colour shall be used in very limited way – varying colour saturation levels offer a useful means to trigger the controllers awareness. • Safety: We are still missing a common understanding what Safety shall express in terms of hard figures. So far, mainly soft indicators are being discussed & applied.

  6. Findings (2/2) • Airport Management: Slot Co-ordination is more than confirming a specific figure – environmental issues often overweight technical capabilities (in Europe) • Economic System Constraints & Controls: • Arrival Slot Auctions could Greatly Improve System Performance • RJs will have a Significant influence on Future System Operations • Air-Rail Intermodal Solutions need to be considered for the Transportation System

  7. Recommendations • Student Paper Solicitation and Separate Paper Review Criteria Should be Continued • Papers Should be Grouped and Presented in General Technical Sessions for better Continuity (fully integrated) • Student Exchange Opportunities should be supported (e.g. setting up of a student activity center, collecting all EEC/FAA means to support & fund exchange of stuff)
