  5. Note:degrees conferred College • Certificate programs – 1 year or less • Diploma – 2 or 3 years • Advanced Diploma – usually a bridge to a university program

  7. Note: What does that mean? • A university degree tells an employer that you can think critically and analyze information. You don’t know much about anything, but you can figure it out. • A college degree or diploma tells an employer that you have concrete skills that are specific to a career field

C or M level courses in grade 11 and 12 Some programs will ask for U level courses – look at program requirements NOW so that you are prepared U or M level courses in grade 11 and 12 Most programs will require U level courses For example - Science program will need U level math and science – need to look at the specific program requirements NOW What kind of high school courses do I need?   11. For programs beginning in the fall the equal consideration date is February 1.  After February 1, the colleges consider applications on a first-come, first-served basis. The deadline for applications this past year was January 14, 2009 When do you apply? University College

  13. Pathways to Apprenticeship • OYAP The Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) is a school-to-work transition program offered through Ontario secondary schools. Full-time students in Grades 11 and 12 earn cooperative education credits through work placements in skilled trades. • Pre-Apprenticeship Training Program The Pre-Apprenticeship Training Program helps potential entrants to the apprenticeship system develop their job skills and trade readiness so that they will be prepared to find work as apprentices. Programs are up to 40 weeks in duration and include the Level 1 apprenticeship in-school training, relevant safety training and a minimum 8-week work placement. Programs may also include trade readiness, employment preparation and academic upgrading. There is no cost to participate in a pre-apprenticeship program. In addition, costs for text books, safety equipment and tools are included.
