Ready for Work, Ready for Life • Alliance for Excellent Education indicates: • National high school graduation rate = 78% • 26% of high school graduates are “college ready” • 60% of today’s jobs require post-secondary education or training • Nationally, 39% of 25-34 year olds have an associate’s degree or higher • National Association of State Directors of Career Technical Education Consortium’s Career Ready Practices Goal #10 states that students will plan education & career paths aligned to personal goals. • Build Your Future also supports the job candidate skills/qualities employers want just released by the National Association of Colleges and Employers
Curriculum Overview • Purpose • Lessons align with: • National 4-H Mission Mandate – Leadership and Personal Development • National Career & Technical Education Standards • Research-based and peer-reviewed • Michigan • National 4-H Council • Piloted in Michigan with urban and rural sites
Youth Feedback 61 teens in five urban and rural Michigan sites gave feedback incorporated in the final design. Feedback was positive; as one teen participant said, “this was a very cool way to learn.”
