  10. Math and Science Choices for 2009-2010 After the Term 1 Report Card (early February) math and science teachers will give recommendations to students/parents concerning math and science courses for Grade 11. When students choose their electives for Grade 11 (mid-February), they will also choose their math level. (CST, TS, or S) Depending on student progress and interest thereafter, students can still make changes. In June, students will write their math exam in either: CST,TS, or S.

  11. Reports Reports will be sent home as follows: • Mid-term 1 Early November • Term 1 End of January • Mid-term 2 Middle of April • Term 2 End of June

  12. Evaluation by Competencies • Each subject has 3 competencies that the student will be evaluated on. • Works on a 5 point scale. • Advanced 5 • Thorough 4 • Acceptable 3 • Partial 2 • Minimal 1

Competency Grades • Marks are not cumulative. • An end of year a “Competency Report” will be produced to evaluate all of the competencies for each subject. • The final mark will be an average of the weighted competencies. • Teachers will make a “judgment” on how the student has done on each competency at that point in time.

  16. Teachers’ Professional Judgment The teacher: makes a judgment based on various means of evaluation: tests, quizzes, written work, oral presentations, portfolies, performances, interchanges with the student, etc. bases the judgment on relevant and recent information. 16
