SUMMARY ASSUMPIONS FOR THE SHIELD OPEN GEOMETRIC OPTIONS FOR THE SHIELD: lintel architecture (horizontal roof + vertical walls) vaulted architecture cylindrical architecture CHOICE OF A GEOMETRY AND DIMENSIONS FOR A DETAILED DESIGN
ASSUMPIONS FOR THE SHIELD VESSEL DIMENSIONS ф=1800mm , L=2800mm SHIELD LAYERS 2cm of Cu 5cm of special Pb (to be eliminated, according to measure results) 15 – 10 - 5 cm of ordinary Pb Possible addition of water bricks around the lead castle. Under the castle, we can replace water bricks by a thicker layer of ordinary lead, to avoid lifting everything on a structure above ground level
OPEN GEOMETRIC OPTIONS FOR THE SHIELD HORIZONTAL ROOF + VERTICAL WALLS PROS We can build it with standard bricks It is less dependent on the final dimension and configuration of the vessel It can be good both for horizontal (longitudinal or transversal orientation) and vertical vessel , if the vessel dimensions are not too dissimilar CONS the quantity of lead used is not optimized structural problems in the roof part, that lead us to add a holding system (steel plate…)
OPEN GEOMETRIC OPTIONS FOR THE SHIELD VAULTED ARCHITECTURE PROS Loads are better distributed from the top of the shield to the bottom of it, so we have less structural problems The quantity of Pb used is better optimized CONS we need customized bricks for the curved top part The shield is less adaptable to modifications of the vessel design The building process is more complicated (we need to make a lead vault with loose bricks) It is only good for horizontal vessel in longitudinal position
OPEN GEOMETRIC OPTIONS FOR THE SHIELD CYLINDRICAL ARCHITECTURE PROS The quantity of Pb used is better optimized CONS we need customized bricks for the curved walls The shield is less adaptable to modifications of the vessel design We have similar structural problems for the top “roof” as with lintels
CHOICE OF A GEOMETRY FOR A DETAIL DESIGN HORIZONTAL ROOF + VERTICAL WALLS HAVE BEEN CHOSEN FOR DETAILED DEVELOPMENT
TECHNICAL CONCEPT FOR THE SHIELDTYPE OF ARCHITECTURE(3) We have placed a stainless steel plaque between standard Pb bricks and special Pb beams. LINTEL ARCHITECTURE Plate: attached to upper steel beams by steel straps passing through upper bricks Special Pb: hanging from plate, attached to it Cu: attached to special Pb Standard Pb bricks Upper beams Steel plate straps Special Pb Cu strips
