#3 Practice • Find #3 on your answer sheet. • Write each season three times on your answer sheet. Make sure you spell each one correctly.
#4 Your Favorite Season – Su Estación Favorita • How do you ask, What is your favorite season? • ¿Cuál es tu estación favorita? • How do you answer? • Mi estación favorita es el invierno. / El invierno es mi estación favorita. • Find #4 and answer the question, ¿Cuál es tu estación favorita?
#5 How/what is the weather? • The question to ask is, ¿Qué tiempo hace? • Notice we use the verb hacer instead of ser in a lot of the expressions. • Hace sol. ~ It is sunny. • Hace calor. ~ It is hot. • Hace frío. ~ It is cold. • Hace fresco. ~ It is cool. • Hace viento. ~ It is windy. • Hace buen tiempo. ~ The weather is good. • Hace mal tiempo. ~ The weather is bad.
#6 More Weather Expressions • Llueve. ~ It rains. • Está lloviendo. ~ It is raining. • Nieva. ~ It snows. • Está nevando. ~ It is snowing. • Está nublado. ~ It is cloudy.
#7 Test Time and I Have to Write a 25 Word Essay About the Weather! What can I do? • Make sentences negative. After you describe the weather as it is, write what it is not. • No hace sol. ~ It is not sunny. • No está nevando. ~ It is not snowing. • No hace mal tiempo. ~ The weather is not bad.
#8 Practice • Find #8 on your sheet. Make the following sentences negative in Spanish.` • 1. It is not good weather. • 2. It is not cold. • 3. It is not raining. • 4. It is not windy.
#9 Check your answers • Make corrections if you made mistakes. • 1. No hace buen tiempo. • 2. No hace frío. • 3. No está lloviendo. • 4. No hace viento.
#10 When? • When do I use mucho (a lot) and muy (very) with the weather expressions, and with which ones do I use them? • Often there are idiomatic expressions in a language that do not translate word for word. • You have to remember when to use mucho and when to use muy.
#11 Mucho • It is very sunny. ~ Hace mucho sol. • It is raining a lot. – Está lloviendo mucho. • It is not snowing a lot. ~ No está nevando mucho.
#12 Muy • It is very good weather. ~ Hace muy buen tiempo. • It is not very bad weather. ~ No hace muy mal tiempo. • Remember to use muy with buen and mal.
#13 Questions • What is the weather like in January? ~ ¿Qué tiempo hace en enero? • It is cold and it snow sometimes in January. ~ Hace frío y nieva a veces en enero.
