11-6 What is Succession? 3-11-11
3-11-11 Bell Work: • Which biome is your favorite? • Why?
Daily Review: • In your own words what does climate mean?
3-11-11 Objective: • I will describe how communities of organisms develop.
Vocabulary: • Succession-Gradual change in populations of organisms that occurs when the environment changes. • Climax Community-last community in a succession.
Notes: • Environments do not always stay the same.
Stages of Succession: • First to grow are grasses and weeds. • Next to grow are shrubs and trees. Since the trees have shade the grass dies. • Next pine trees begin to grow. Some of the shrubs die because of the shade. • Then hardwood trees grow. Since they grow taller than pine trees the other trees die. Then the succession stops because the hardwood trees are the last in the succession.
Even in water succession can happen. The water dries up and can create land only with no water.
Closure: • In your own words describe succession.
Long Term Memory Review • What is a clinical trial?
