Re-engineering of social statistics: key elements (1) • Currently, social statistics are produced on the basis of: • Social surveys (LFS, SILC, AES, ICT…); • Enterprises surveys (ICT, SES…); • Administrative data collections (SHA, ESSPROS); • Integrated mixed models. • Integration as a key priority • Integration of output, • Integration of programming, • Integration of data, • Integration of infrastructures, • Integration of processes. Point 6.2 Perspectives of reengineering of social statistics
Re-engineering of social statistics:key elements (2) • Ongoing projects: EPSS, core social variables; • Key elements and first concrete steps: • Improving the usability of administrative data sources; • Data linking; • Use of standardised tools; • More intensive use of ICT tools (ex: internet as a data source); • Increase ESS-wide collaboration: • First: creation of an ESSNet on data linking; • Later on: creation of an ESSNet on the setting up of a common statistical infrastructure. Point 6.2 Perspectives of reengineering of social statistics
Issues for discussion The DSS are invited to discuss on the overall proposed strategy for social statistics, in particular: • integration as a cornerstone of this long-term strategy; • the increased use of administrative sources; • the use of new tools (in particular ICT tools); • the proposal to develop from 2010 onwards, first an ESSNet on data linking and, at a later stage, an ESSNet dedicated to the overall re-engineering of social statistics; • the proposed next steps.
