Lecture 8 9/23/11 • Lab 2 demos • Project Brainstorming • For Wednesday: Preliminary Project Proposals – in writing, about 2 pages
Preliminary Project Ideas 2011 • Andrew: Portable mapping system – hiking oriented – periodically record location, • Jiaqi: for teaching – ring around your finger – can sync what you write on the computer • Kristin: Seaglider sensor data logger • Jenna: Stair-climbing robot: focused on moving, say, boxes up stairs
Preliminary Project Ideas 2011 • John: Theatre: gesture-sensing wirelessly enabled conductor’s baton with unobtrusive display system • John: seat management for a theatre so you know when it’s full or not • Michael: bicycle rental systems – figure out a way to do it small and low-cost without having to buy all new bikes and bike racks
Preliminary Project Ideas 2011 • Michael: making a Segway clone • Aaron: 6th sense video – building some subset of this – Kinect has some features • Anne: Sign-language recognizer variant • Aaron: Cocktail mixer – assembly line style • Riley: Rail Gun
Preliminary Project Ideas 2011 • Kevin: Data center energy use: cooling is lots: robot that patrols a data center getting temperature data, communicates with cooling system to manage temperature • Kevin: Surface mapping using GPS to map elevation – another sensor platform but autonomous movement creating self-directed map
Preliminary Project Ideas 2011 • Grant: see http://www.earslap.com/projectslab/otomata • Jenna: fire doors: not allowed to leave them open, but it would be great if they could be… auto-close • Andrew: instant-replay issues in sports: intelligent playing fields – in/out, ball position marking, even a portable field with automatic boundaries
Preliminary Project Ideas 2011 • Baseball variant for strike zone, or ball-in-glove, or runner reaching base before fielder catching it… fair vs foul. • Basketball variant – the cylinder above the goal, shot released before clock expired.. • John I.: Automatically adjusting rear wing for race car • John I.: Wheel speed sensors for each wheel
