  2. Medieval Architecture • Medieval architecture began around 400 AD. • -Three Characteristics include: • Fancy detailing and artwork • Stonework • Vast rooms and halls

  3. Historical Perspective -The Fall of Constantinople -1453-1517 -The fall of the ancient city of Constantinople was an historical event in the medieval times because many artists and architectural styles were born there.

  4. Artistic Movement R O M A N E S Q U E -11th Century -It influenced the architects of their styles and even the type of sculptures that were built

  5. DOVER CASTLEDavid’s Building -Located in Kent, England -Architect was William the Conqueror (main) -1180-18th Century -Relates to medieval architecture because it has a moat and a stone keep in its center. Floor Plan:

  6. CASTLE HEDINGHAM Floor Plan: 1080-1133 AD ALLIE’S BUILDING -Architect: Aubrey deVere -Location: Essex, England -Fits Architectural Style Because: Castle Hedingham has a moat and a outer stone wall protecting it from foes (back in those days..)

  7. Caernarvon Castle Stephanie’s Building • -1293-1330 • -Located in Wales • James of St. George, Master Mason and military engineer Edward 1 • Related to Medieval architecture because it has a sanctuary and stone detailing around the perimeter. Floor Plan:

  8. DAVID’S ART Anonimo by Anni di Scultura 1200 AD It relates to the extravagant stone use and sculture work

  9. ALLIE’S ART L’Agricultura by Andrea Pisano 1337 AD It shows the designs that were used by the medieval lords of that era

  10. STEPHANIE’S ART Harlech Castle by Henry Gasteneau 18th Century The painting relates to the castle because the castle and the painting were both built in Wales. They remind me of each other because of the gloomy sky, and the castle walls.

  11. David’s Original Floor Plan Location: LeGrange, Ga Name: Bufkin Castle Distinguishing Characteristics: It has stone flooring, big hall ways and rooms, and a round table which was decorative for modesty in the medieval times.

  12. Allie’s Original Floor Plan Name: Castle Neverland: where all your medieval dreams come true Location: Scotland Distinguishing Characteristics: I used medieval styling throughout the designs of my house along with a over-sized fire place for cooking

  13. Stephanie’s Original Floor Plan Name: Shoshana Castle Location: San Francisco, California Distinguishing Characteristics: I also used medieval styling, same as David and Allie, however I did use old fashion rugs and had a large main entry hallway.
