  2. Summary • What were some of the observable differences between our Reebop babies and Reebop parents? • What were some of the observable differences between the Reebop babies?

Terminology • Genotype: The genetic makeup of an organism (The code for our Reebop) • Phenotype: The appearance of the trait in the organism (What does our Reebop look like) • Allele: A variation of a gene that controls a trait • Since everyone has two copies of each chromosome, a person also has two alleles for each trait, one from each parent

Terminology • Homozygous: having two alleles that are identical to each other • Heterozygous: having two alleles that are different from each other • Dominant: allele that determines the trait that is expressed in a heterozygous individual • Recessive: allele that is present, but not expressed in a homozygous individual • Example: • LL: Homozygous blue legs • Ll: Heterozygous blue legs • ll: Homozygous black legs • What is the dominant allele?

Variation • Why do our Reebop babies look different from our Reebop parents, as well as each other? • Law of Segregation: states that two alleles from a trait or gene separate during meiosis • Law of Independent Assortment: states that genes that separate during meiosis do not influence each others inheritence
