Fact The nation is experiencing a critical shortage of skilled workers in the nuclear energy sector. The Nuclear Energy Institute reports: “As much as 35 percent of the incumbent work force may be eligible to retire within five years”
Fact Consumption of electricity continues to increase. The Center for Energy Workforce Development reports: “Electricity consumption in the United States to grow by at least 40 percent by 2030”

Results to date: • The Power Plant Institute at IRSC graduated 25 students in August of 2008 • MDC’s Electrical Power Program graduated 12 students in August 2008 • New Pipelines are currently full: 24 students in IRSC and 30 in MDC • Significant number of program candidates on waiting list at MDC and IRSC. • Planning to start a New Power Plant Institute for NLO and RP and Chemistry Technicians.
