Chang, Northwestern University, DMR-0120522 This landmark conference was co-sponsored by the NSF, the Qatar Foundation Science and Technology Park, Texas A&M University at Qatar, and the University of Qatar. Some 80 researchers, educators and administrators attended from 11 countries: Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Jordan, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, United Arab Emirates and the United States. The conference offered excellent opportunities for both formal and informal networking. This was the sixth in a series of NSF co-sponsored planning events to establish a Materials World Network. Chang, Northwestern University, DMR-0120522 Program Highlights On Day 1, Plenary talks and panel discussions gave an overview of regional activities. Topical Areas included Advanced Materials, Infrastructure Materials, Energy Materials, and Materials for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage. On Day 2, participants met in international working group sessions to identify common ground and formulate specific strategies for: (1) building regional capacity in materials research and education (2) stimulating regional collaborations; and (3) fostering international cooperation. On Day 3, an Forum on Materials Education was hosted by the University of Qatar.
