1. Saint Joseph’s VTCKHARTOUM • 650 students: mostly from the refugee camps around the capital & from a juvenile prison in the area • 60 staff • 8 different trades (masonry, auto-mechanics, carpentry, general mechanics, electricity, printing, welding, plumbing) • The VTC was established in the 1940s and was taken over by the Don Bosco Society in 1985

2. Saint Joseph Social Works KALAKALA GUBBA • Main site & 9 outstations located in a radius of 40 km • 5 primary schools with a total of 2000 students • Various social and development activities reaching yearly to 30.000 people (youth programs, trauma counseling, medical labs and dispensaries, women promotion programs)

3. Don Bosco VTC EL OBEYD • 500 local students (3-year course) • 400 youth IDP from Darfur (room & board provided) – 10 months intensive training • 50 studentsfrom the Nuba Mountains • 40 staff • 7 different trades(auto-mechanics, general mechanics, carpentry, welding, masonry, electricity, plumbing)

4. Don Bosco VTC & Social WorksWAU • Technical Centre • 90 students • 12 staff • 3 different trades: general mechanics, carpentry, plumbing, (printing dpt. upcoming) • Dispensary and medical laboratory; women promotion programs • Agricultural project (under study)

5. Don Bosco Educational CentreTONJ • Primary School: grades 1-8; 1200 students, • 80 staff • Hospital and dispensary • 10 rural schools have been started recently(each having 3 classrooms, water well, kitchen, two units for two teachers, bathrooms, agricultural project) • Livelihood training for women through self-help groups

Our key strategy:Education in all its forms! • Basic literacy programs • Primary and secondary education • Formal and informal vocational and technical education • Adult learning
Why Education? • It is the right of every child to receive an education • It is a precondition for a vibrant economy and sustainable process of development • It is a powerful means of supporting the peace process
Education implies: • Literacy Skills: Basic learning in numeracyand reading & writing • Livelihood Skills: Basic training in one of the following trades: masonry and construction; plumbing; electricity; carpentry; commercial agriculture • Life Skills:A holistic training in the following areas: conflict management; peace education; self-esteem building; interpersonal relations; responsible citizenship; entrepreneurship

Focusing on Sudan’s “South” NOT EXCLUSIVELY IN GEOGRAPHICAL TERMS! • Children,as well as young adults and adults enabled to access education • Youngsters empowered to pursue sustainable livelihoods • IDPs accompanied towards a gainful resettlement
1 2 Improve access to schooling, especially for IDPs, in the town of Wau 3 Enable the start-up of small enterprises in the Wau County by providing employment oriented vocational training to youngsters Promote agro-based livelihoods in the Wau County through agricultural training and services Specific Interventions SOUTH SUDAN ZONE WAU
Specific Interventions SOUTH SUDAN ZONE 4 7 5 Create a human resource base of entrepreneurial potential that will contribute to the economic development of South Sudan Improve access to schooling in the Tonj County Promote agro based livelihoods in the Tonj County through agricultural training and services. 6 Improve the status of women in the Tonj County through life skills and livelihoods training TONJ JUBA
1 2 Improve access to basic health care and educational services for the IDPs living in the squatter areas in the Kalakala locality of Khartoum. 3 Offer high quality job oriented professional training to IDPs in Khartoum by improving the standard at the St. Joseph VTC Facilitate the process of repatriation and resettlement of trained youth (IDPs) from Khartoum to South Sudan.
