PurposeImprove the Joint UN Programme of Support • Basic Level of Knowledge • Collect information on epidemic and response in one document and use information to enhance UN knowledge on the status of the epidemic and the response • Analytical Level • Use knowledge to deepen understanding and develop analysis on specific aspects of relevance/importance to the national response • identify gaps • identify priority areas of support UNAIDS

Content: Part 1 – The Epidemic • National and local prevalence (state, province, district)  link to Global Epi Update • Pattern of the epidemic: low, concentrated, generalized • Epi trends, Second Generation Sentinel Surveillance data • Most affected groups: age, gender, refugees, MSM, sex workers, IDUs • Regional/sub-regional Epi profile UNAIDS

  4. Content: Part 2 – The response • Three Ones: National Strategic Plan, National Authority (include) organigram, M&E framework • Universal Access targets: achieved and to-be-reached • Service provision • Legal frameworks • National declarations UNAIDS

  5. Content: Part 3 – Stakeholders • National and sub-national levels • Government: centralized and decentralized • Linkages between national and local/sub-national AIDS responses • Civil society, including PLHIV • Development partners • Private sector involvement and funding of the national response • UN System • At country level: mapping of UN system resources • Regional: Regional Directors Group, regional AIDS teams where they exist UNAIDS

  6. Content: Part 4 – Technical Support Provision • National and regional • Universities • Scientific institutions • Foundations • Technical Support Facilities UNAIDS

  7. Content: Part 5 – Regional Entities and Mandates • Regional entities, e.g: CARICOM, AFRICASO • Regional initiatives, e.g: Lake Chad, “Abidjan-Lagos Corridor” • Regional declarations: e.g. “San Salvador Declaration UNAIDS

  8. Content: Part 6 – Financial Resources Overall: National AIDS Spending Assessment • National and decentralized authorities • Global Fund • World Bank • Key donors: PEPFAR, DFID, Foundations, etc. • Private Sector’s contributions • UN system  link with mapping of UN resources UNAIDS

  9. Process • Collect, gather suggested information, adapted to specific country situation • To be undertaken by Joint Team with input/support from the UNAIDS Regional Support Team and other regional UN teams UNAIDS
